Cottage Gardens
The informality of cottage garden designs lends them an energy lacking in most garden schemes, none the less the gardens are neither haphazard when the overall design is caringly structured.

Cottage gardens began centuries ago as modest, fenced-in pieces of land kept by cottagers who cherished wild-collected plant life for its usefulness. Livestock and vegetables, berry bushes, fragrant flowers, and herbs for crafts, cooking, and medicine packed the areas.
Asian Gardens
In the Asian tradition, landscape contemplation – in the wild, in a garden, or in a scroll painting serves as a sacred experience. The Chinese and Japanese by tradition held sacred the space within a garden and deemed the world outside profane. A number Japanese garden designs offer a rustic landscape and contain wet or dry streams and waterfalls, bordered by ferns, moss, and twisted pines.
Lake and island style gardens, developed in China, influenced Japanese garden designs. Islands symbolized the home of immortal spirits and consisted of carefully placed earthen mounds or jagged rocks set in an artificial pond.
Formal Gardens
Whereas a love of plants or nature inspires cottage and Asian gardens, formal garden designs express the humanistic worth of people as the center of the cosmos. A formal garden design looks it’s greatest near a traditional-style home so the garden resonates the home’s architecture. Formal garden designs are symmetrical though the main alignment often leads from a specific position near the house (a balcony, front door, a stone terrace) to a focal point further away such as a pavilion, bench or sculpture. By continuing the geometry of the house outdoors, a formal garden layout makes a transition to a wild or informal landscape at the edge of the property. property’s edge.

Picking Wedding Flowers That Will Last All Day
Author: tkwriter
One thing many prospective brides or couples do not consider when choosing flowers for their wedding is the availability of particular flowers during the time of year they plan to get married.
Gardenias, as wedding flowers, are available all year. These richly scented wedding flowers are typically cut by the grower to have a stem less than one inch long. Florists can easily remedy this for use in your bouquets and wedding corsages with the use of wire and tape but it makes the use of gardenias impractical in some types of centerpieces. They are wonderful when floated in shallow bowls on your wedding tables.
Gardenias will brown very easily from handling contact. Handle them with care and expect corsages and bouquets made with them to show some wear and tear by the end of the wedding reception both from lack of water and from handling them.
Hydrangeas are available all year long. However, there are wide variations of price and quality for this flower. Hydrangeas are in season during the summer season. While many varieties of hydrangeas are available all year, many hydrangeas bought off-season are undersized and lower in quality for a much higher price.
Hydrangeas are very thirsty and prone to wilt easily from heat or lack of water. The white varieties of hydrangeas show bruising more than other colors do.

Wedding Flowers – Lilies, A Popular Choice
Author: tkwriter
The most popular wedding flowers have limitations many couples are unaware of. To save you time and to make choosing your wedding flowers easier, I’ve given some of the seasons, drawbacks, and benefits of some lilies as popular wedding flowers in the following paragraphs.
Calla lilies, also known as arum lilies are available all year round but experience great fluctuations in price. They are somewhat vulnerable to bruising and this can be especially noticeable on the white varieties. Callas are sensitive to cold temperatures and can get frost damaged easily. They can tolerate heat very well and retain their moisture well even without a water source. This makes them ideal for use in wedding bridal bouquets wherein they may be required to last out of water for some time. The miniature calla varieties make great boutonnières because they are not harmed by body heat or lack of water.
Tops of the calla lily’s blooms don’t take up much surface area so you can expect to use a lot of calla lilies in a round, all calla lily bouquet. Calla lilies can fill up more space when used as to expose the length of the bloom rather than just the top such as in the train of a cascading bouquet or in the length of an arm bouquet.
Casablanca lilies are available year round. They have huge, flat blooms, which take up quite a bit of surface area and can really fill out a bouquet. Casablanca lilies are also subject to bruising but not as vulnerable as callas. Some people delight in the Casablanca lily’s strong fragrance but some others are allergic to it.
Casablanca lilies are more resistant to cold temperatures than calla lilies, but more subject to wilt from high temperatures or from lack of water. Their large bloom size makes them great for decorating the wedding ceremony as they are easily seen from a distance and they hold up very well if they have a water source.
