Euphorbia pulcherrima, or Poinsettia Plants, are defined as, “the most beautiful Euphorbia.” Joel Roberts Poinsett, the first U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, gifted the very first Christmas poinsettia plants to America in 1828 giving it that name as homage for his gift. Basically his last name gave birth to the plant’s name.

The legend says that long ago, a young peasant girl was on her way to attend Holy Night in her church in Mexico. It was the custom to bring a present for the Christ Child on that night, but she was poor and had no means to do so.
