How To Create A Square Paver Patio: The Build
At the chosen location mark out the boundary of the patio using mason’s cord and the stakes. Measure diagonally to make sure the area is square
. Your 2 numbers should be equal.
Use a shovel to cut away the soil about two inches outside the boundary line. This is where the edging will be placed once the patio has been laid.
The next step is the most physical. Inside your patio shape you have to dig down 6 to 7 inches. The exact depth depends on the thickness of your pavers You should allow 3 inches for the gravel and one inch for paver sand. Check that the dugged out area is level.

Now pour in the sand. Use the rake to spread sand over the gravel. Use the 2 x 4 board to smooth it out. Use tamper to compact it.Check measurement to ensure base is still level.
Start laying the paver bricks. Start at one end and work down. Keep checking the level.
When you finished laying the pavers, put down the edging.
Use the stiff bristle brush to spread sand over the patio. Lastly use a fine spray on your garden hose to wash the sand down between the paver joints.
